Consumer directed programs in Rhode Island

 

Rhode Island offers three programs that enable people in Rhode Island to hire PCAs directly—the PersonalChoice, PASS, and Respite programs.

Worker requirements

To be hired as a PCA by people who are paying you with state funds through PersonalChoice, PASS, or Respite, you must:
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Must submit to and pass a criminal background and abuse registry screening
  • Have the ability to carry out the tasks required to meet each recipient’s needs

Additional requirements for PASS and Respite

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • If related, not live in the same home as the individual
